AS CP+ is underway in Japan, scoops, rumors, and product teases are everywhere. Here’s a brief summary of what’s getting attention:

Canon Rumors reports on Canon’s concept cameras on display at the show. Everything from action cameras to brightly colored kids cameras is on display (sourced from Japanese site DCWatch).

Nikon Rumors reports on a new Nikon Z camera coming for the consumer market. Additionally, Nikon demonstrated improved eye autofocus coming in a future firmware upgrade for Nikon Z cameras. Check the video below.

Also on display: New Nikon lenses and Techart showed off the new TZE Nikon Z-mount to Sony E-mount adapter.

Rumor Roundup — January 25th, 2019

Canon

According to Canon Rumors, Canon filed patents for multiple non-L zoom lenses in RF mount. The lenses include 70-300, 100-400, and 50-250mm focal lengths with max apertures from f/4-5.6. Read Canon Rumors article here.

Additionally, Canon Rumors reports filings for a 24-80mm f/4 L IS lens and a 24-105mm f/4L IS lens. Both lenses are for the new RF mount. Read the article here.

On the Cinema EOS front, the Cinema EOS C300 Mark II replacement is rumored to have 8K capability . Further, Canon will release PL mount versions of their CN-E Primes later this year.

Leica

Techart released a new adapter ring that enables autofocus on Nikon Z cameras with Leica M lenses. The adapter ring enables a Sony Alpha adapter to mount on Nikon cameras. Effectively, you have two adapters between your lens and the Nikon Z body. Read Leica Rumors’ article here.

Nikon

Nikon COOLPIX P1000 with DF-M1 Dot Sight

The Nikon DF-M1 Dot Sight for the COOLPIX P1000 camera is now available for purchase. The sight enables more accurate acquisition of distant subject, particularly with the P1000’s 3000mm lens.

Panasonic

L-Rumors reports that Panasonic will announce the S1-S1R on January 31, 2019. The rumored camera specifications include 4K60P video and a 47MP sensor. Read the full article here.

Prograde Digital Demonstrates 1TB CFexpress Cards with Nikon Z Cameras

Prograde digital demonstrated the capabilities of their 1.0 (1TB Capacity) CFexpress memory cards at CES in Las Vegas. CFexpress cards share the XQD form factor, but require a firmware update to function with Nikon cameras with XQD card slots. It is unclear whether Nikon will also release a firmware update for their XQD equipped DSLRs. Notably, CFexpress cards offer a 1,400MB/s read speed and can write at 1000MB/S. Nikon Announces New Features for Z6 and Z7 Cameras: Eye Focus, PRORES RAW Recording, and CF Express Compatibility

News Shooter published an article today detailing the advantages and functions for Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras that Nikon announced yesterday. The article describes the PRORES Raw functionality and dives into the features of the Nikon Z6 Filmmaker’s Kit. Additionally, Nikon’s announcement outlined upcoming eye focus for Z6 and Z7 cameras. Additionally, Nikon will add CFExpress functionality to both cameras. Whether or not Nikon will add CFExpress functionality to D810 and D5 cameras is unclear.

Nikon Announces Z6 Filmmaker Kit & 14-30mm F4 S Lens

Nikon announced the Z6 Filmmaker Kit today. The kit includes a Z6 body, Nikkor 24-70mm F4 S lens, FTZ adapter, Atoms Ninja V, a MOZA Air 2 gimbal and other accessories.

Nikon also announced the “World’s first full-frame 14mm filter-attachable lens” with their Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S Ultra-Wide-Angle Zoom. The lens is designed for both video and stills shooters. See the full press release for both sets of products here.
